Licensed Trade Support and Care have created a new and exciting volunteer opportunity. The "Befriending Programme", aims to make a difference to the elderly who have worked in the Licensed Trade. We are looking for volunteers, who can really make a difference to our services.
When an elderly person has a small and fragmented social network, they can be at risk of loneliness and social isolation.
Social isolation
There are many reasons why a person become socially isolated in their later years. For some people, having limited social contacts is a preference and part of a lifestyle. For others though, this lack of social connections is not their choice and these are the people that we are concerned with.
Some elderly people may have small families or families that live far away. There are also people who have become more isolated due to increasing frailty. Additional factors include, gender, death of family members or friends, retirement, living alone, reduced social networks, caring for a loved one, geographical location, poverty and lack of confidence.
Befriending provides companionship for isolated people, and gives them the chance to develop new relationships, and opportunities to participate in social activities.
Befriending Service
The aim of the Befriending Service is to reduce social isolation in the elderly by proving opportunities for them to develop new relationships, and give them a sense of being a part of a community.
Volunteers Needed
We are looking for people who want to make a difference to the lives of those who are identified as socially isolated. These individuals should ideally be of an out-going nature and find it easy to make friends. They should also be good at encouraging and empowering others. If you would like to befriend elderly people in your area, then we have just the opportunity for you.
